For Soulful Kids
I’ve finally finished three chapters of my book project currently subtitled “12 Spiritual Practices for Soulful Kids.” This, plus the (finished) introduction and some (unfinished) collateral materials will begin their hopeful rounds of publishing houses in the next two weeks. If you have any contacts you would lovingly like to share with me, now is the time. (publishing contacts? agents?)
For now, you can sample the chapter on the Anger Altar at my other site here. I’ll be keeping it up for two days and then selfishly taking back down again to hoard it for a book offer.
Thanks for reading along faithfully with me until it was time for something good to get born!
-Your Urban Abbess

Thank you for this. I would love a book like this. Blessings as you explore possibilities!
You could use my name to connect to Al Hsu at InterVarsity or Chad Allen at Baker. Al’s blog is The Suburban Christian, linked to from mine. IVP probably isn’t the place for your book, but he might help you with contacts. Right when I read it, I thought Jossey-Bass, though I don’t know anyone there. I think they’ve published Diana Butler Bass’ work and related books on practices.
Congratulations!!! Your book sounds fantastic.
Emailed a publisher friend with a link to your blog about this…
I read the anger chapter and am anxious to begin my own area this spring. Thanks for sharing your life with the world!
Thanks Jenell! I’ve been talking to Chad for ahile now. He must think I’m the biggest flake because the proposal STILL isn’t in. As you know, I’m not very evangelical, so I don’t know who will want to pick my work up, but I have a feeling there’s someone out there. I used to have a contact at Jossey-Bass, the very cool Juliana, but a little birdie told me she’s moved on. I’ll have to call and find out who has her position now. I’m also hoping to shelp the manuscript to the folks who publish Rabbi Shumley Boteach of “Shalom in the Home”, Meredith Books (among others.) I’m on the search for non-religious publishers who produce works on sprituality/soulcare for kids. We’ll see what the search brings up….
Dear Rachelle,
I just wanted to pop my head up again and tell you that I think you are great.
Pete
Hey Rachelle,
I’m pretty sure Juliana is still at Jossey-Bass, and I think they would be interested in this. This is a book I could easily get five friends to buy, and I’m sure many other parents feel the same. We need to have this book out there!
Thanks so much for taking the time to birth it!
Danielle
Hey, Rachelle - I’m coming to this post late (I’ve had a busy March), and Dave Zimmerman tells me that Kristine put him in touch with you, but feel free to send your proposal to either of us. Be glad to take a look. And I think Juliana is still at Jossey-Bass; she had a baby last fall and she’s probably back from maternity leave but I haven’t heard for sure.
