Hiver: A Zine for Midwinter

Many of you have traveled with me through the saga of chronic migrianes. About a year and a half ago I wrote about packing up all of my art-and-writing projects and putting them in the box headed for the basement. When I did that I had just begun on and idea for a ‘zine — actually for a series of ‘zines — and that is the project who’s death I mourned the most.

It’s truly a sign of my increasing health then, to introduce to you my first, flawed attempt at a ‘zine.

This tiny edition, Hiver, is a collection of essays, songs, recipies, and petite pieces of art to get you through the grey days of midwinter. You can read more about it and order at my new site, Magpie-Girl. Of course, I’d love it if you ordered one, because I made it with people like you in mind — but mostly I just wanted to say “Look!” and “Wow!” and “Thanks for traveling with me on this healing journey!”

With much love and affection –

The Urban Abbess

I have not traveled with you but also am a fellow traveler on the path of pain…eight years of fibromyalgia and disability…so I am empathizing and cheering and celebrating your ‘zine!

Rachelle, you give me hope. I wasn’t a part of your “readership” when you posted your initial mourning the migraine post. But I understand…I too walk that journey, and am back in the midst of it again now. Just coming out from a steroid/narc fog when the regular meds weren’t/aren’t cutting it. About to start what’s hopefully going to be a prophylactic. Sigh…I’m glad you have been able to come through and above the pain. Your works possess much beauty, inspiration, light. I’ve appreciated perusing and look forward to your new zine! –K

I just got mine in the mail. It is sooooo cool. I’m going to add it to my altar space. The readings and art are fantastic! I keep going back and reading through it again and again.

    Thank You So MUCH!
