And Now, A Word About Tone….
Rebecca mentioned to me recently that my ‘voice’ on this blog is fluxtuating wildly between “priestessy mystic person” and “sassifrass jones who worships at the throne of Heather Armstrong.”
I know! I know!
The girlie girl in me who loves a good lipgloss tip (Almay whipgloss in raspberry is my pick of the week) has been intermingling a lot with the wise pre-crone I am aging-to-be.
I’m trying to solve the rapid back-and-forth of my writing voice by opening a new blog at magpie-girl.com (not live yet.) However, because I can’t afford a graphic designer so I’m learning how to:
1) illustrate
2) do webdesign
…you know, in my “free time.” Given that the children haven’t had a full day of school for most of the month, “free time” is pretty much non-exsistence. Also, my new studio still isn’t ready to move in and the Wolfpup is living in what was former known as my home office — so even when I have time to work I first have to dig all of my stuff out of a box and set up one the dinning room table — oh wait, it’s time to put it all away again for dinner. Still, my studio will be done a mere few days and the chidlren have a regular school schedule after Thanksgiving, so I’m salivating!
As I’ve been working on the new blog graphics, Jen, she of the big girl illustrators, just helped me solve my ink-to-watercolor problem. I understand the pens and ink I need are even coming my way via priority post(!), so hopefully my masthead will be done soon. Then Paul, he of the local crusade for gender equity, will be able to get the blog up and running.
Once Magpie Girl launches I’ll write about art and family stuff there, and reserve Urban Abbess for topics of the spiritual variety. Also keep an eye out for UrbanAbbey products and MagpieGirl loot, coming to a paypal link near you!
Thanks for hanging with me during this transitional period!

your package should be there already, mama!
as for the dining room dilemma–i just bought a little portable three drawer storage thingy for the major essentials–brushes, ink, pens, markers and watercolors. i keep it under the sidetable in the dining room (love you long sage tablecloth) and put it up on the table whilst doing my art. it’s a quick disappearing act at the end of the day (or before morning) and everything stays organized. my collage-y friends keep their favorite papers in a nice big shopping bag that can be repacked in a flash.
aren’t you proud of me for trying to be less worthy of child-protective services, at least in the dining room???
love and miss you and desperately wishing i was with you for solstice.
just curious
why do we have to compartmentalise our lives so much?
why must we avoid a fluctuating “voice”?
why can’t we mix our spirituality into all aspects of our life, including our blogs?
just curious
