Just a Word….

Nothing generates comments like a post on gender equity! (At least, on this blog anyway.)

Thank you for all who have commented. The conversation thus far has not sunk to the mudslinging level (which I was very concerned about prior to posting) and there’s been fairly well-heard and well-spoken discussion all around. I really appreciate people dealing even handedly with each other. Let’s keep remembering “your sibling is never your enemy.”

For those of you who have been so kind as to read here regularly, you know that I have been struggling with migraines for nearly 3 years, and that they have been increasingly severe. I have recently decided to go off all of my “abortive” meds (meds you take when the pain comes on) and to only continue with my “preventative” meds (meds you take only at night.) This means I will be having rebounded headaches for 2–4 weeks. So far that’s meant I’m good from 9-12 and then get increasingly wiped out by pain as the day goes on.

As you can imagine, this forshortened day makes it difficult to achieve the basic tasks of life, and leaves little time for blog reading and writting. I had commited to the gridblog prior to this health crisis, and so I went ahead with it, and I’m very glad I did. It’s been a great expereince to join our voices together on any number of gender equality issues.

I guess what I’m trying to say is I’m sorry if it seems like I’m dropping the ball discussion-wise. I’m only one small voice in a broad and colorful discussion, and I’m sure y’all are doing just fine on your own. I’ll read and comment as I’m able. Thank you so much for keeping the ball rolling!

Much Shalom,

Rachelle

Ps. Speaking of equality and justice — the Seattle March for Marriage Equality is this weekend on the corner of Broadway and Pine at noon. We’re gathering at the Tullys (824 E Pine) if locals would like to join us.

The Spirit of the Lord restores individuals, families, churches and nations. I’m persevering to humble myself to that end….I pray we all do.

    Rachelle,

    What is the gospel?

  3. Rachelle Says:

i’m sorry but i don’t reply to anonymous posts.

  4. Steve Jobs Says:

Oops, sorry about being anonymous Rachelle.

    What is the gospel?

  5. Rachelle Says:

steve jobs at apple …very funny.

i don’t know if i want to get into this with you. first you come at me as a non-person (anonymous) and now you mock me by giving me a fake name. let me think about it. i’m not sure right now that i want to give you what limited energy i have. my spidey-sense are telling me it will be a poor use of my limited resources.

how about this, rather than writing all that stuff anew, why don’t you surf around under ‘pomo theo’ and read past stuff that i’ve written about kingdom and gospel. you could also search ‘kingdom’ in my blog search engine and see what comes up.

then if you want to talk, in a real manner, i’ll be around as much as possible.

You say in your blog that this is the gospel:

    > …a God who “likes them” …

    -and-

    > …the good news, is not about my sin and my
    > evilness and how Jesus’ really horrid death on
    > the cross to make up for all that badness. The
    > good news is not that God let Jesus get ripped to
    > shreds, stabbed, and pounded. The good news is
    > not even that Jesus rose from the dead, or that I
    > don’t have to go to hell. The really really good
    > news is that the kingdom of God is at hand. There’s
    > a new boss in town. And this guy, he’s the real
    > deal. He’s got wholeness (shalom) in his hands.

You don’t submit under the authority of the whole bible. Instead, you stand over it in authority as a little god.

I’m here to tell you that this gospel of yours is really just a a satanic, watered down shadow of the gospel and that Jesus Christ, the one who holds the keys to the Kingdom, will not acknowledge you before the Father if you keep preaching the gospel like this.

  7. Margaret Says:

Personally….I don’t preach myself, like Paul said I preach Christ crucified…..Phil 1:16….The one preach Christ out of contention, not sincerely, ………but the other of love…….Notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached.

I am praying, Come Holy Spirit
    We need thee
    Come Holy Spirit,
    We need thee
Leave us not forsake us not,
    Our Saviour,
    Come Holy Spirit
    We need thee.

  8. Rachelle Says:

um, okay “steve jobs” …thanks for the info. i’ll keep it in mind.

btw, jesus said the good news was “the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”….then he told lots of stories about what the kingdom should look like…so that’s the gospel message i’m trying in my own small and flawed way to follow

    mercy triumps over judgement.

    bye now,

hey rachelle, maybe you need doc searls comment policy. if the commenter couldn’t say the comment in your living room, while eating your snacks, than that officially qualifies as deleteable material. i know how badly paul would love to meet steve jobs, but i just can’t imagine these comments being decent conversation fare for the abbey–paul’s love of all things apple aside.
    :)

    You mean like Galatians 5:12?

  12. Margaret Says:

    Good day Rachelle,
I have been intermitently reading this site for over a year. This is the first I have ever participated, reason being, God had something to say to you. From respect to the entire situation not only to you….I have refrained to post the wonderful words the Lord was saying to you personally….not tickling your fancies for sure…simply what He said, because it is personal.
I have much work to do and the Lord has cautioned me about laziness…I would appreciate reading more, it is interesting, I tend to enjoy most of your writing.
To the comment re Gal5 this is what I recieved from the Lord Prov. 23. WE Christians need to believe in the restorative works of God…redemption….new lives and certainly hope. Trusting God is everything. My hope will never be cut off…He maintains my cause and I trust will always until I see Him. There are many perishing to whom my ministry is veiled. I agree the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
They threw Jesus out of the synagogue and killed Him. I pray we be saviours, and not selectively. Was Patty Hearst a Christian?

    True peace,
    Margaret

  13. Paul Roberts Says:

Of course, I know there’s loads of research out there, but I saw this and thought of you:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4793634.stm

BTW, they’ve all come out of the woodwork for this one haven’t they?

    Love to you all
    Paul

  14. Steve Jobs Says:

With regards to Galatians 5:12, I meant to illustrate that the apostle Paul said some things that would tend to disqualify him from jen lemen’s suggested comment policy criteria.

This blog seems to have a low view of Paul anyway, so his writings are probably already moderated away or deleted all together.

  15. Erica Says:

and to think I almost bought an IPOD.
    Blessings Rachelle.

  16. bostic Says:

I’ve been playing a joke on myself. I keep imagining that Steve Job really is making these comments, and it just cracks me the hell up. Erica can probably feel me on this one.

  17. Phyllis Says:

    Dear Steve Jobs,
What my friends in this section are trying to say without saying it is, you’re being rude in the most outrageous way. No matter your views, you’ve come into Rachelle’s living room, so to speak, and insulted her. By default, you’ve insulted us as well.
So take your anonymity and your accusations elsewhere. Your behavior is bad form.
A few lessons on blog etiquette would do you good.

  18. Margaret Says:

When the Lord has torn, He promises to heal. Repentances are always before victories.

After two days He will revive us, on the third day, we shall live in His sight….

All things work for good to those that love the Lord.

Again, Come Holy Spirit, Ezek 37…your breath of life, the Lord chastens those He loves. Despise not His chastening else we not be sons of God.

Study concludes Prov.23 follows on to Jer 31..everlasting covenant ofcourse.

Only the Lord knows why He allows and does what occurs, our job is to TRUST…..and yes, the kingdom of heaven is at hand :-)

  19. Steve Jobs Says:

You take yourselves too seriously, and God too lightly.
