Today in real life…

You know, I was going to write this great post about being a priest and a prophet in the post-modern reformation, complete with quotes from Peterson, scripture references from Jeremiah, and some back up from the lessons of history. But you know what? I don’t want to spend the next two days debating my point.

Instead, I think I’ll just celebrate actual stuff that happened in kingdom today…at least in the tiny part I live in. ‘Cuz all that theory, sure, it’s important, but it’s where the rubber meets the road that it really matters. So here’s what happened today in the kingdom that lies on the edge of Fremont and Wallingford…

…a friend stood in her own power and made healthful decisions for her relational life.

….an idea I had in my sleep turned out to be a timely ritual for a neighbor.

…the work I did for the new webpage turned out to be good-to-go.

…something I read and wasn’t able to put out of my thoughts turned out to be the perfect thing for a woman who was struggling in my writer’s group.

…the season of epiphany brought an epiphany about why my life is twitchy right now. I want to work full-time (in my normal, weird, un-paid way). But I am daytime parent, which is also a full-time job. And, I’ve got this chronic condition that’s in an acute phase right now, so treating the migraines is a ¾ time job. So the work thing is really getting crammed in there. Now what I need an epiphany about…can I make more space for work somehow by accepting more help from others?

…i realized that it’s okay to hire a housekeeper once a month…and it doesn’t have to be someone I personally know who’s in a tight spot financially and requires some soulcare – oh, and could they please also be a recent immigrant. it’s okay to just hire someone from phone book, honestly.

…my sometimes-fifteen-year-old gets a chance to give back by watching my kids this afternoon.

….i felt happy about my weekend, especially the two beautiful baptism services I was able to be a part of: one a funky ancient-future rite for a twenty-something friend; the other, an intergenerational celebration stretching forward and back through time. What’s not to love about your kids “baptizing” little multi-ethnic baby dolls in a big vat of water. (Only my kids were drowning the poor things in “oil” because they’ve only seen infant dedications with lots of anointing.)

…i woke up pain-free and spent and unstressed morning with my children.

I have to ask a question! Doesn’t the rubber hit the road when we wake up breathing? So, isn’t everyone living real life?

And I’m still blessed that you’re blessed today.
