Wow, I’m honored. I’m meme’d, and I’m the only GUY to be meme’d (Do I count because I think I’m a Soul Sister?)
I keep meaning to return Holy Fools to you. Very good - especially liked the ending!
I didn’t like Moulin Rouge when I first saw it. I thought “Oh no, this is just La Boheme with pretty sets - Pft!” Then I caught a reference to the real Molin Rouge in a James Joyce Story (I don’t remember which one) and I began to wonder about the significance of excess in the film. Then I noticed bits of “Camilla” were in the movie, and I also learned more about Henri Toulouse. Somewhere in there I went, “Ohhhh…” and a little lightbulb went on. Once I “got” the movie I started to watch it a lot. Even after this many viewings, I still see things I haven’t seen before.
hey, thanks for participating. i don’t know what “meme” means either ; )
p.s. maybe i could teach you how to surf someday… used to be a surfer girl in a past life.
i really love prayer for owen meany.

thanks for the great time at your house yesterday.
Here’s an exploration of what memes are: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meme. It’s a bit convoluted, but the basic idea is that memes are to culture as genes are to bodies. A meme is a thought that can be transmitted from one human being to another, primarily by imitation. Memes are, supposedly, a fairly stable element in the evolutionary transmission of culture.
“The meme as a unit simply provides a convenient way of discussing “a piece of thought copied from person to person”, regardless of whether that thought contains others inside it, or forms part of a larger meme. A meme could consist of a single newly-coined word, or a meme could consist of the entire speech in which that word was first uttered. The “word itself” meme will most likely survive many more generations (after transmission alone or in other sentences) than the “speech in its entirety” meme will survive (due to errors of memory, abridged versions, etc.).”
So chances are, Rachelle, that your triad memes could be true memes after all!
The Gift of Asher Lev. So nice to meet someone who considers it a favorite.
I would add by Chaim Potok too “The Chosen.” And of course “My Name is Asher Lev,” the previous book.
