Elimination Diet
After an hour and a half at the very patient naturopath’s, I now have a brand new diet to try to manage my migraines. It’s a vegan-plus-eggs diet (actually I can have fish too, but I don’t like fish) that’s high in protien. Bye-bye refined carbs, especially flour and sugar and hello fish oil tablets. (Thank goodness they make those in strawberry flavor now.) The hardest part will be remembering to eating every two hours without over eating. I just portioned out a couple dozen snack bags with 1/3 of a protien bar or a handful of nut-based trail mix in each one. Better stock up my purse and the glove compartment!
I am glad to know that I’m not nutso. Although my blood tests are inconclusive, Dr Melissa says that I am probably processing sugars badly. That’s why I wake up at 3am — my adrenline kicks in as my blood sugar dips. The solution? A spoonful of yogurt or a handful of nuts right before bed. Who knew! She’s also pretty convinced that something is tweaked in my body chemistry, so hopefully eliminating all those animal hormones from meat and dairy products will help.
Boy. I’m gonna miss brownies!


I can’t imagine not having chocolate. Sigh.
My hormones “shifted” somehow in my early 30s , and talking with other women has convinced me that this is very common.
You’re not nutz.. I hope the nuts (and other food changes) will help, esp. the headaches.

I’ve been on a similar path with migraines! I share in your sufferings. I’ve tried some fairly intense dieting. I’ll be interested to see how this works for you. Keep us posted.
It’s so frustrating to feel like you are TRYING everything. You feel like a cook! I’m in the 12 migraines a month club and I’m on some pretty heavy drugs right now. And, trying to do seminary full-time. Hmmm…I keep wondering if God is trying to tell me something, but the pain dull’s the signal.

This sounds so interesting, Rachelle. Sometimes I think I should be a nutritionist. This stuff is fascinating. I really hope you see changes from all your hard work with food.
