New Obsession
outdoor studio
First off, I’d like to say that I’m very VERY excited about my new outdoor “studio.” I’ve recently become obssessed with moasics. Paul has indulged me and we spent 20 minutes in the cement-and-grout aisle at Home Depot last week so I could adjust my technique. Right now I’m just making stones to border our anger/sadness altar in the backyard. But I’ve checked out some books on mosaic techniques and I’ve got two bigger projects in mind: a series of panels depicting alternative images of God and a copy of the tinted glass windows at COTA’s new Abbey.

Speaking of Studios….
secret book
I’ve started the secret book. Here’s a little pic of the first roughed-out page. That’s all I’m gonna tell you about it. (Wah Hah Hah Hah!) However, I will give you this little conversation snippet that I had with Eden.

“Eden, I think I’m going to start calling my office ‘the studio’”
“Yeah, only Mommy…you’re not an artist.”

Niiiicee….

And Two More Eden Quotables
We’re doing the Artist’s Way at Monkfish Abbey. It’s really working for me. The concept is that you nuture your inner Artist and you learn to get your inner Censor to shut-up. Recently Rebecca, fellow monk and artist’s way-er, pointed out to me that something I’ve been worrying about is actually my Censor yelling at me. I’ve been concerned that if I focus on art my health will fall apart. I’m worried that I can’t focus on dealing with my head and my weight and being creative at the same time. Rebecca yelled, “THAT’S your censor!” It was an Aha moment for sure!

So I’ve decided to say “Bullshit!” to my censor and I’ve launced into a nutrition regime to help my headaches. I suspect that vaciliating blood sugar levels contributes to my lower-grade migraines, so I’ve started a program of eating mini meals every three hours. So far, I’ve been able to maintain that AND give energy to my artistic edeavors AND take care of mia familla AND keep Monkfish rolling. So take that Censor dude.

So, when I told Eden that I was going to start taking care of my body better she said, “You mean like your stomache? Cuz’ it could use some taking care of.”

Sigh.

Eden also gave me this little snippet this week:

“Mom, have you ever seen a gnat?”
“Sure, Eden”
“I think I saw some once when we were camping. They were eating the end of a banana on the ground.”
“Um Hum.”
“Gnats are communal..they like to live in community I think. They aren’t like Grizzly Bears.”

I don’t know where she gets this stuff.

Lucky Cat, We Hardly Knew Ye.
lucky cat

So I finally got a goldfish. It was a black moor and we named it Lucky Cat. It lasted exactly 36 hours before we found it floating. Poor Lucky Cat. The girl decided that Lucky Cat wasn’t such a good name. Our new orange gold fish is now named Maria. The girls check her every few hours then come bounding out of my office/studio shouting “Maria’s still alive! She’s lot luckier than Lucky Cat!”

I am cracking up over the Eden quotes. Sometimes these kiddos can be encouraging and other times, not so much.

Um..”secret book”? Did I miss something in one of your earlier posts? I don’t remember a “secret book”, or do I and I’m just having a senior’s moment?

the secret book must stay secret lest the mcdonaldizers discover it and put your best ideas on t-shirts and coffee mugs!

The Artist’s Way (done in an online group) saved my sanity a few years ago by channeling me into art when I couldn’t write. Glad you’re showing the censor who’s boss! I love Eden’s quote about the gnat and the grizzly — and your outdoor studio looks wonderful. Keeping my fingers crossed for Maria….
