I actually responded to the phrase that was attached to this picture: “Does your relationship with Jesus make you weary.” When I first saw this pic a few years ago I really resonated with that. I was weary of trying to experience Jesus as the great solution in the sky. “Just by this and you’ll have no bad breath! You’ll smile all the time! You’ll be energetic and happy happy happy!” You know what I mean?
In retrospect this was a less a realtionship with Jesus and more my relationship with Christianity — seeing Christianity as a practice that, if perfectly followed, could lead to a sort of zen-y blissful exsistence (if only one got “holy” enough.) I guess I’ve abandoned that now. Now I’m just grateful for the moments when I can see my story and his story as a part of the great story we all find ourselves in.
Oh my.
I am still laughing at that one…..
Hey! Look! It’s Jim Caviezel!
