Presidential Debate

Alicia and Mike hosted our first ever debate party Thursday night at ThPM. Josh hauled the TV up from downstairs and we stuck it in the living room. Paul mixed up yummy drinks. Jennifer brought a pot of her grandmother’s potato soup.

It was Alicia’s idea to get together and watch the debate. She had a couple goals. 1) Watch the debate and listen to the candidates. 2) Think critically about her voting decision. 3) Discuss things with her community. We weren’t sure exactly how to do that, until Elizabeth DiCandilo helped us come up with this debate game. The general idea was that people would get debate dollars which would allow them to have the “soap box” during the commercial breaks. Well, about ten minutes into the debate, we realized that THERE ARE NO COMMERCIALS. (Duh!)

Still, we broke out the debate money after Kerry had triumphed. (Sorry, I can’t be completely non-partisan) and had a very helpful discussion. Alicia found some great through provoking questions on-line, which I’ll post soon. The next presidential debate is Friday Oct 8th. Why don’t you host a party? This decision is too important for you to take a pass on. Let your faith interact with your life. VOTE!

P.s. And if someone gets too hyperbolic on ya….slap them with one of these:

fab idea rachelle - but no one here shares my liberal political perspective. there would have to be far too many drinks to make me want to sit in a room with them and listen for very long…
