Loving Life

The absolutely best way to improve bill-paying is to listen to This American Life on-line whilst you click and sign your way through your paycheck. If I ever meet Ira Glass in person, I will kiss him on the lips in utter gratitude for making me feeling like a smart-person-who-can-laugh. My favorite episode recently has been The Allure of the Mean Friend, in which we explore why mean kids are so…well..alluring. I especially loved Act Three when someone delivers a sidesplitting (in that “it’s so true, it’s sad” sort of way) monologue about backward compliments. It was orginally produced on 9/5/03, so check the archives. Happy listening.

It is great radio - and that’s saying a lot in a world where even good radio is hard to find.

I have an aquaintance, Kevin Kelly, who was interviewed by Ira Glass for a show a few years back…1/17/97, the show was called “Shoulda Been Dead” and tells the story of Kevin’s dramatic conversion to Christianity. The ‘Paul Harveyesque Rest of the Story’ - not mentioned in the interview, interestingly enough - is that Kevin was founding editor and is now editor-at-large of Wired Magazine. No kidding.
