Priestess Eden

Eden drew this picture. “Tell me about this picture Eden.” “It’s what is in my heart Mommy.” There she is on top of the heart marrying Justice, her friend from preschool. Her best friend Rosie is on the left. Inside the hearts are GigGig and Bompa peeking out of the heart windows. Paul and I are there in the bottom left hand corner (that’s me with the flippy hair.) Everything else is “rooms Mommy, for all the love that people can live in.”
I tell you, this child is my priestess.
A few days ago Eden came and sat next to me on the couch. “Mommy,” she said “I did centering prayer in my bedroom today and I saw Jesus holding a big ball, a sphere, you know Mommy like a big blue ball full of water….you know, water? And Jesus threw the ball on the devil and drowned the devil!!! But everyone else, like you and me and people, we just got splashed with the water and it was fun so we laughed.”
Where else does this stuff come from, but from God? I hope my children never lose this wild, instinctive connection to God. I pray with all the earnestness of my heart that I can find a way to teach them their family stories, to show them their place in the story, without indoctrinating their souls, without fencing in God and turning his story into a list of rules. I hope I can continue to let them teach me how to uncover God. I pray and hope and wish that my own hubris and pride wouldn’t prevent me from sitting at their feet and learning tremendous truths from their tiny mouths.
May there be many rooms of love in my heart. May Eden help me build them.

That is really cool. They just come up with this stuff? You have awesome kids.
Thank you for sharing! This makes me look forward to seeing my little one’s life unfold even more. It gives me great Hope. Your girls sound fabulous.
That’s beautiful! My four kids are all teenagers now. One of my favorite memories involves a lesson my son Jordan (who was three at the time)taught me. We live in the Northeast. One winter day I was traveling alone with all four of them in the van. A storm developed and the roads were horrendous. I was very nervous. I told the kids we were going to pray for a safe trip. After the prayer, my oldest son Ben asked, “Where is God?” In my nervous state I quickly replied, “In Heaven”. I’m so clueless sometimes! Jordan immediately corrected me by saying, “No He’s not. I see Him right here. He has His hands on the wheels of our van keeping it on the road.” So very true…
