Something About Pants

I’ve had so much in my head lately and no time to blog it out. Eden got sick. Streph Throat. She coughs all night. We get her medicated and settled down. But by then Cate is awake. She comes in to tell me stuff like, “I love you Mommy an I just wanna seeeeee you.” This is darling…but not at 3am! Since E’s been home from school there’s been no gym and no work all week. Our big cake tasting for Postres de Elena is coming up and I’ve got like, 1,000 emails to get into our database for the invite. Plus, my in laws are coming on Friday. Lent is right around the corner and we only have two of the needed six art submissions. I’m not sure how to get this stuff done.

I’m supposed to be writing an article on “Women in Ministry.” Maybe I should write about multi tasking???

Anyway, needless to say I haven’t been blogging. Though I’ve been dying to. So here’s what I would have written, if I could of, on Monday.

Iz and Em came over for dinner tonight. I used to see Iz every week, but now we are doing different things so we only see each other at ThPM. It was cool to hang with both of them. I made pasta (Eden cut the herbs out of the garden) and Em brought this great salad with big leaves of fresh basil. Yum! After dinner we looked at Em’s photography on line. (check it. home.earthlink.net/~embutton/index.html) and played on line pictionary (isketch.net). Em’s always cold in our house so she and Cate sat on the floor of the kitchen “in front of the warm” (the heater vent) and curled up under an afghan to read a picture book about traveling in Rome. Em was translating Rome’s history into Cate-speak for her. I love it when kid-less friends are so kind to mine. Iz and I talked about ThPM a bit (like we used to do non-stop). He said something about when we first started ThPm we were trying to fashion a certain pair of pants. Those pants fit some people and they didn’t fit others. Now he says we’re just trying to help people find the kind of pants they like.

I dig that.

I think the faith/life I’m cultivating for myself at ThPm feels like sweatpants. Their comfy when you need to be comfy, but you can work out in them too. But that’s just me.

I hope that’s true. I hope ThPM helps people see that within the rack labeled “Christianity” there are a whole lot of different pants. I hope people feel that they can wear whatever pair they damn well please. I hope they feel comfortable in their clothes.

Life is too short for uncomfortable pants.

No doubt you’ve heard Anne Lamott go off on uncomfortable pants…right? It’s absolutely hilarious…I think she talked about that last year @ the Emergent Convention!
