Weekend Update

This weekend I did not check my email. Not even once. (Well, actually once, but only to see if my friend from Turkey and his newly adopted baby girl were going to come by for lunch on Sunday.) Other than that I didn’t ready anything.

I’ve been working a lot lately. Pretty much every spare minute of every day has been spent mulling over organic church planting/missional communities/intentional Christ oriented living, etc. So a weekend free from email was sort of like a signal to my brain to take a break.

Friday was Paul’s 33rd bday and we went out to dinner at Ponte Vecchio. Come to find out, this is owned by the dad of one of the little kids Cate goes to school with. It’s always fun to “chat with the owner.” I love that kind of thing. We had great food. Paul’s only complaint — the opera singer. He’s not so fond of Figaro, Figaro, Figaro!

We spent Saturday at my folks. They have a hot tub, a full bar, and a barbeque. Needless to say, it was a nice day. The girls got to spend time with their great grandmother, who is here from California, and we all cuddled up and watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Sunday I taught the 2-5 yr olds Sunday school (one teacher short - 8 kids, 2 hrs, and the tv was busted so no Veggie Tales to the rescue.) We did centering prayer with the kids, which was awesome. Bella said ” I see Jesus making everyone’s hearts.” Cate said, “I see Jesus building a castle.” I love that stuff.

Tommorrow I’ll have to go back to work. Tommorrow I’ll have to face the fact that my migraine medicine is giving me anxiety attacks. Tommorrow I’ll have to look at my Thanksgiving shopping list and heave a 20 pound turkey into my cart. But today, I just get to hang out with my kids and make goofy paper bag angels dripping with glue and lace. The girls will show their handiwork to my Grandmother, their Great Grandmother — who is newly widowed, and almost 80, and very lonely (in spite of my dear family’s best efforts). After the girls are done and have gone upstairs to play, my Grandmother will sit curled up on my couch. She will look out the window and say that she laughed more this day then she has in months. And I, I will be content.
